Change Team:
Great W today!
by posted 11/16/2019

Hi Everyone,

We pulled off a great W against a tough team that kept things close. The final score was 10-8. The kids did a great job in the 2-3 defense and we even tried the Kemba play a few times.  We will work on these things in practice.

We'll see you at practice at 6 PM on Thursday.  Looking ahead, the next game is next Saturday at 9 AM at the Twomey Center vs. Team Guros.

Enjoy the rest of your weekend!

Tonight's Practice/Game on Saturday
by posted 11/14/2019

Hi Everyone,

We had a good practice tonight followed by another strong scrimmage.  At practice, we worked on the 2-3 zone defense, and I reminded the kids to stay within the 3-point arc, as it is a league rule that offensive players cannot be guarded outside the arc.

We also started working on some offense plays - which I've named the "Kemba", the "Jaylen" and the "Tacko" - after some popular Celtics players.  These are some basic plays that should be effective.  The Kemba is a play where the ballhandler, at the top of the key, drives to the hoop when his teammates clear out - essentially giving the ballhandler a "1 on 1" opportunity.  If the defense collapses on the ballhandler, they can kick it out to any of their teammates who should be open. The Jaylen (sometimes referred to as the Box 1) is an inbounding play on the offensive end where the players set picks for each other horizontally to hopefully free up a player underneath the hoop for an easy basket.  The Tacko (sometimes referred to as the Box 2) is the same idea, except the players move vertically.  These plays are a work in progress! We will continue to work on them each week.

Because some of the players were missing tonight, we can go over these plays before the game on Saturday.  This Saturday's game, vs. team Sackos, is at 8 AM at the Middle School North building.  Please arrive at 7:45 so we can prepare for the gameand warm up a bit. Please make sure your player comes with a water bottle.

A friendly reminder - please let me know in advance if your player is going to miss a practice or game.  My phone number is 978-852-7053.

See you on Saturday!

Hi Everyone,

Great first practice tonight!  It was great to get started with the team, and I love everyone's enthusiasm.  Over the next few weeks, I want to start working on some things with the team that can be used in-game including inbounding plays, pick plays, and defense.

A few reminders - The game on Saturday is at 9 AM, at the Twomey Center.  Please arrive at 8:45 so we can warm up a little, I'm told that the games will start promptly. Make sure your player has a water bottle (or whatever they prefer) and we are the "away" team, so make sure they are wearing the maroon side of their jerseys.  We will be playing the Vogel team, who we scrimmaged with tonight.

My goal is to make sure all the kids get equal playing time on game day and that they all have fun and feel supported. As this is my first time coaching this age group (and being a head coach), I appreciate your feedback as well.

See you on Saturday!
